Hyderabad Tech Hub to Service LEAP Engines for Airbus and Boeing Fleets
GMR Aero Technic has partnered with Honeywell Aerospace to establish a regional MRO hub for LEAP engine components. This agreement enables local maintenance for Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX operators.
Strategic MRO Expansion in South Asia
The aviation maintenance infrastructure in India received a significant boost on July 28, 2026, as GMR Aero Technic finalized a licensing deal with Honeywell Aerospace. The agreement centers on the lifecycle management of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) for LEAP engines, which are the primary power plants for the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. This shift toward localizing specialized technical services aims to reduce the logistical burden on regional carriers.
Technical Scope and Operational Impact
Under the terms of the collaboration, the Hyderabad facility will manage seven distinct Honeywell aerospace LRUs. The technical workflow involves a comprehensive process including:
- Complete unit disassembly and detailed inspection.
- Precision repair and internal component replacement.
- System reassembly and rigorous functional testing.
By conducting these sensitive operations within Indian borders, GMR Aero Technic intends to slash turnaround times. Previously, operators often had to ship these critical engine control systems to overseas facilities for certifying repairs. The new localized model promises more cost-effective solutions and enhanced service quality for airline operators throughout India and adjacent markets.

Ashok Gopinath, president and accountable manager at GMR Aero Technic, noted that the partnership combines Honeywell's proprietary technology with GMR's existing repair infrastructure to support LEAP engine operators. The move aligns with the rapid expansion of the Indian aviation sector, which remains one of the fastest-growing markets globally.
Cooper Cullen, Honeywell Aerospace president for the EMEA and India regions, characterized GMR Aero Technic as a vital partner for the company's regional expansion.
