Haveri Police Return Stolen Assets Worth ₹2.30 Crore and Solve Cold Murder Case

Large-Scale Recovery Operations and Property Restitution

Haveri district law enforcement officials conducted an official property return ceremony on Thursday, returning stolen assets valued at approximately ₹2.30 crore to victims. The recovered items stem from 46 separate criminal cases, including temple thefts and residential burglaries. Superintendent of Police Yashodha Vantagodi confirmed that between January and July, the department seized ₹1.18 crore in gold, ₹63.20 lakh in cash, and ₹34.57 lakh in silver jewelry. Additionally, the recovery included vehicles worth ₹8.68 lakh and numerous mobile electronic devices.

Key breakthroughs required inter-state coordination. Suspects linked to the Makaravalli and Byadagi robberies were apprehended in Surat, Gujarat, while another burglary suspect was tracked to Madhya Pradesh. Authorities also addressed the long-standing fraud case involving maize trader Shivalingayya Gadigudal; SP Vantagodi noted that the charge-sheet is filed and the department is ready to transfer the 2021-22 investigation to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) upon final approval.

Resolution of the Koosagatti Homicide Case

The district police also announced the arrest of Bharamappa Laxmappa Jogappanavar, 52, in connection with the murder of a daily wage laborer eight months ago. The victim, 55-year-old Bodappa Ramappa Channagiri, was killed at the Koosagatti bus stand in November. A specialized investigation unit utilized forensic data and technical evidence to identify Jogappanavar, who reportedly confessed to the crime on July 28 after being detained. Investigators stated the motive was a dispute over a ₹10,000 debt remaining from a ₹20,000 loan.
