Granola, the AI-driven note-taking platform, has launched a new application for the Apple Watch. The software allows users to initiate transcriptions directly from a watch face complication, bypassing the need to interact with a smartphone during sensitive or active professional interactions. According to co-founder Chris Pedregal, the tool specifically targets in-person scenarios, such as walking one-on-one meetings, where pulling out a phone might be disruptive.
Strategic Shift from Phone to Wearable
Internal testing at Granola revealed a significant behavioral shift among employees, with a substantial portion of mobile usage migrating from the iOS app to the Watch interface. This launch follows a year of expansion for the company, which achieved unicorn status after securing $125 million in Series C funding led by Index Ventures. Key features of the new wearable integration include:
- Direct transcription triggering from customizable watch faces.
- Automated reminders for scheduled calendar events.
- Seamless synchronization with the existing iOS application launched in 2025.
Choosing Software Over Proprietary Hardware
While the market has seen a surge in auxiliary recording peripherals designed to pair with smartphones, Granola opted to leverage existing wearable ecosystems. The company determined that developing for the Apple Watch was more efficient than attempting to integrate with third-party hardware devices at this stage. This puts Granola in direct competition with other dictation tools like Monologue, which introduced its own Apple Watch support for online and offline meeting notes earlier this year.
