In the latest ICC rankings update released on July 29, 2026, Indian captain Shubman Gill has officially returned to the number one position for ODI batters. Gill overtakes New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell, who had maintained his grip on the top spot since January. Mitchell's absence from the recent series between the West Indies and New Zealand provided the opportunity for Gill to reclaim his status as the premier batter in the 50-over format.
The meteoric rise of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
The T20I rankings witnessed a historic leap by 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Following India's 3-0 sweep of Zimbabwe, Sooryavanshi escalated 230 places to land at 48th in the world. The young talent amassed 151 runs across three matches, averaging 50.33. While Sooryavanshi's 536 rating points show promise, he remains behind Ishan Kishan, who leads the T20I batting list with 910 points. Kishan's peak rating of 916 during the Zimbabwe tour now sits as the fourth-highest of all time, surpassing the career-best ratings of Suryakumar Yadav (912) and Virat Kohli (909).

Several other Indian players saw significant movement in the short-form standings:
