Modernized Formulations for a New Era

Gap Inc. is reclaiming its stake in the beauty industry through the launch of Gap Beauty. This initiative brings back the brand's most recognizable scents from decades past—Dream, Grass, Heaven, and Om—while introducing a fresh fragrance named Harmony. Unlike the original versions, all five scents have been reformulated as eau de parfums. This shift utilizes updated perfumery technology and ingredients to provide longer-lasting wear, moving away from the lighter concentrations of the past.

Strategic Alignment with Scent Wardrobing

Working in collaboration with DSM-Firmenich, Gap engaged perfumer Honorine Blanc, the creator of the original lineup, to oversee the technical evolution of the collection. The strategy reflects a shift in buyer behavior; rather than sticking to a single signature scent, today’s consumers increasingly seek a "scent wardrobe" that allows for layering and personalization according to mood or occasion.

The Executive Vision for Beauty

Leading the brand’s renewed focus on this category are Deb Redmond, Head of Beauty, and John Demsey, Executive Director of Beauty. This relaunch represents the initial phase of a multi-year plan to capture higher-margin revenue within the prestige beauty segment. By tapping into nostalgia while upgrading product quality, Gap aims to leverage its existing brand equity to engage a modern audience seeking accessible yet premium lifestyle products.
