From Dropout to Decarbonization: How Prachi Shevgaonkar Cut 9 Million Kgs of CO2

The Scale of Individual Action

While global climate discussions often focus on industrial policy, Prachi Shevgaonkar identified a gap in personal accountability. By leaving her engineering studies, Shevgaonkar dedicated her focus to developing a digital tool designed to quantify and encourage sustainable lifestyle shifts. This initiative has successfully prevented more than 9 million kilograms of carbon emissions to date. The platform operates on the principle that systemic change is fueled by the aggregation of minor, daily adjustments.

Global Reach Through Simplified Sustainability

What began as a singular decision to prioritize environmental advocacy has expanded into a movement spanning 150 countries. Currently, over 130,000 individuals utilize the app to track their ecological footprint. The software encourages users to adopt practical habits, such as:

  • Choosing cycling or walking over motorized transport for daily commutes.
  • Reducing food waste by utilizing leftovers effectively.
  • Optimizing household energy consumption.

Measuring Impact Beyond Data

Shevgaonkar emphasizes that the 9-million-kilogram figure, while significant, represents only one layer of the project's success. The underlying objective involves dismantling the perception that climate mitigation requires unattainable grand gestures. By standardizing small-scale interventions, the platform fosters a collective belief in individual agency. This narrative of grassroots transformation is highlighted in the #ForceForGoodHeroes series, produced in partnership with the Aditya Birla Group, showcasing citizens driving measurable environmental progress.
