Direct-to-Shelf: Broadway and The Foundery FWD Debut 18 New Indian Consumer Brands
The Foundery and Broadway have formed a strategic alliance to launch 18 fresh consumer brands through experiential retail locations. This partnership allows early-stage startups to test products and consumer response in physical stores across India.

A New Conduit for Market Entry
The Foundery, a venture builder backed by prominent investors Kishore Biyani, Nikhil Kamath, and Ronnie Screwvala, recently unveiled 18 consumer-centric businesses during its inaugural showcase, The Foundery FWD. These brands, incubated during a rigorous 90-day residential program, span sectors including health and wellness, fashion, food and beverage, and consumer technology. Through a new partnership with Broadway, these emerging labels will bypass traditional barriers to entry by moving directly into experiential retail environments.
The Broadway Model: From Build to Shelf
Broadway serves as a specialized launchpad for next-generation brands, providing a streamlined route to market. Led by Vivek Biyani, Sankalp Kathuria, and a group of high-profile partners including Rana Daggubati and the Salarpuria Group, Broadway focuses on a content-to-commerce strategy. The platform currently operates in four major Indian hubs: Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, and Mumbai.
Operational Efficiency for Founders
- Resource Management: The commercial model simplifies expansion by covering utilities, rent, storage, and in-store staffing within a time-bound shelf space agreement.
- Market Validation: Founders can observe buyer behavior and refine product offerings in real-time without the financial burden of long-term leases or permanent storefronts.
- Scalability: By integrating distribution and retail operations from the start, brands can accelerate their transition from vision to commercial viability.
Kishore Biyani emphasized that the partnership corrects a common entrepreneurial error where distribution is treated as an afterthought. According to Biyani, entering retail conversations during the build phase is vital for long-term success. Investor Nikhil Kamath echoed this sentiment, noting that for Indian brands to reach global markets, they must first secure a foothold within the domestic economy through accessible retail spaces. Broadway CEO Sankalp Kathuria stated that many of the 18 brands were selected specifically for their alignment with the platform’s curated aesthetic and consumer demographic.
