Crude Oil Slump Triggers Index Recovery as West Asia Tensions Thaw
Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty rallied on Monday morning following a 4% drop in Brent crude prices. Markets responded positively to a pause in military activity between the U.S. and Iran.

Market Rebound Fueled by Energy Price Correction
India's key equity indices regained ground in early trade on July 27, 2026, as cooling geopolitical friction in West Asia sent global oil prices tumbling. The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 566 points to reach 76,608.66, effectively erasing losses from the previous week. Simultaneously, the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 153.60 points, trading at 23,923.30.
The Impact of Falling Brent Crude
The primary driver for this upward trajectory was a sharp decline in Brent crude, which dropped 4% to settle at $92.84 per barrel. This marks a significant retreat from $102 just four days prior. Financial analysts suggest this shift significantly alters India's economic outlook. According to Rajesh Palviya, Head of Research at Axis Direct, the correction in oil prices provides a tailwind by lowering inflation expectations and easing the burden on the Indian rupee.
Geopolitics played a central role in this shift. V.K. Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments Limited, noted that sentiment stabilized over the weekend after the U.S. and Iran halted military actions. He indicated that if this de-escalation persists, the market could maintain a sustained rally.
Corporate Gainers and Institutional Activity
Specific stocks led the morning recovery, with notable performance seen across several sectors:
- Major Gainers: InterGlobe Aviation, Infosys, Eternal, Asian Paints, and Bajaj Finance.
- Market Laggards: Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank traded lower despite the broader index gains.
The recovery comes immediately after a volatile Friday session on July 25, 2026, when the Sensex fell 331.62 points and the Nifty dropped 102.15 points. Exchange data also revealed that Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers during that previous session, offloading equities worth ₹3,892.77 crore. While Asian peers like Japan's Nikkei 225 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng also trended higher on Monday, South Korea's KOSPI bucked the trend by trading lower.
