Criminal Sexual Conduct Allegations Levied Against Jared Leto in BBC Investigation
Ten women have come forward in a new documentary alleging historical sexual misconduct by actor and musician Jared Leto. The claims span from 2002 to 2016, involving teenagers as young as 14.
Systemic Patterns of Misconduct Alleged
Ten women have broken their silence in a BBC documentary titled Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, detailing allegations of criminal sexual conduct and grooming against the Oscar-winning actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman. The accounts, spanning the period between 2002 and 2016, describe a consistent pattern of behavior occurring while Leto was in his 30s and 40s. These women, nine of whom are sharing their stories publicly for the first time, were between the ages of 14 and 19 at the time of the alleged incidents.
The evidence presented in the investigation includes historical messages, photographs, and corroborating testimony from family and friends who were informed of the encounters when they occurred. Despite multiple attempts by investigators to solicit a response, Leto has remained silent regarding the specific accusations.
Specific Claims of Assault and Statutory Rape
The investigation highlights four core allegations of criminal conduct:
- Assault at a Motel: One witness, identified as Isabel, alleges she was 17 when Leto lured her to a motel bathroom under the guise of conversation. She claims Leto exposed himself and forced her to touch him before she managed to flee the room.
- Statutory Rape in California: Another woman reports engaging in sexual activity with the star when she was 17. She alleges that when the legal age of consent (18) was mentioned, the star dismissed the concern entirely.
- Grooming and NDAs: A third woman describes being targeted at age 16 with explicit phone calls. She alleges she was later pressured to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to prevent her from discussing their relationship, a document the BBC has since reviewed.
- Threats of Sexual Violence: A former model, Alex, alleges that while she was 19, she was funneled into a private hotel room under false pretenses. When she attempted to find a safe way home or a place to sleep, she claims Leto repeatedly threatened her with sexual assault.
Logistics behind the Stage
Testimony from former touring staff, identified under the pseudonyms Brad and Simon, suggests a coordinated effort to facilitate Leto’s access to young women. Brad, a former crew member, stated that instructions to invite specific female models and fans backstage came directly from Leto. He described the process as uncomfortable, noting that local modeling agencies were often used to provide VIP guests for a purpose-built backstage room.
Witnesses also detailed behavior at public events. One woman recalls an incident from when she was 14 years old; she alleges Leto made Lewd remarks about her body during an autograph signing and subsequently instructed security to bring her backstage despite her age. Her mother reportedly confronted the musician at the time, but he allegedly repeated the inappropriate comments.
Among the ten women interviewed, four additional individuals reported receiving unsolicited and sexually graphic phone calls from Leto during their youth. While some victims expressed frustration that these events occurred decades ago without consequence, others described the psychological impact of being isolated by a high-profile celebrity and his staff.
