Strategic Preference Selection and Deadlines

Delhi University (DU) admissions officials are urging undergraduate applicants to prioritize academic programs over institutional brand names. During a Wednesday webinar hosted by the admissions branch, Joint Dean of Admissions Anand Sonkar noted that students frequently regret choosing a prestigious college if they do not enjoy the curriculum. Although preference selection remains an individual choice, the administration recommends a course-first approach to ensure long-term academic satisfaction.

The deadline for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) is 11:59 p.m. this Saturday. Candidates must complete registration, subject mapping, and preference selection by this time. Dean of Admissions Haneet Gandhi stressed that these lists form the foundation for all seat allocations and warned against last-minute changes, as the portal automatically locks submissions at midnight.

Understanding Simulated Ranks and Allocation

Following the initial registration phase, the university will provide data-driven insights to help students gauge their chances. Key dates in the process include:

• July 12: Release of simulated ranks based on existing CSAS data.
• July 13: Final window for candidates to modify their preference lists.
• July 16: Announcement of the first seat allocation list.

The simulated rank offers a snapshot of a candidate's standing within a specific program. For example, if 10,000 students apply for a course, the tool displays exactly where a candidate ranks within that pool. After the first list is public, students can 'freeze' their assigned seat or select 'upgrade' to vie for a higher-priority combination in subsequent rounds. Professor Sonkar cautioned that the 'upgrade' selection is irreversible once activated on the portal.

Eligibility and Mid-Session Entry

Addressing concerns regarding Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) results, officials clarified that admission depends on Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores, though students must pass their board exams to remain eligible. Applicants facing 'repeat theory' (RT) or compartment results have a secondary path. These students can apply via the mid-session entry window, which opens on July 28, once they have cleared their necessary examinations.
