Graduation day

Professor H. Sudarsana Rao, vice-chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Anantapur, emphasised the importance of lifelong learning during his convocation address at the 24th graduation ceremony held by M.L.E.T. Engineering College in Tiruchi recently. Principal A. Naveen Sait presented the annual report. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering bagged the Justice M. Fakkir Mohamed Rolling Shield, which was awarded for producing the top most results in the university examinations among all the branches. The award was given by A. Mohamed Yunus, chairman, M.I.E.T. Engineering College.

Art with a purpose

A group of five student volunteers from the ‘Good Samaritan Club’ — an extension wing of Bishop Heber College utilised their three-day Muharram holidays to give a makeover to the CSI Methodist Girls Higher Secondary School in Tiruchi recently. The effort was led by A. Jenifer Christinal, assistant professor of Mathematics and the club coordinator, and students independently mobilised funds through external donors. The walls were decorated with colorful, evocative murals centered around themes of environmental conservation, ethical values, humanitarian ethics, and civic duties. School’s correspondent R. Vasanthi Annammal, and headmistress D. Latha Mary Sheelin felicitated the Good Samaritan Club’s team members.

AI in higher education

The transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and career development, was the focus of a guest lecture organised by the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation (EDI) Cell of National College recently. In his address, Anand Pitchaikani, managing director, Modelon Engineering, a Sweden-based multinational engineering software company, said that AI is transforming education through personalised learning, intelligent tutoring systems, AI-assisted assessments, virtual laboratories, and advanced research support. Highlighting future opportunities, Mr. Pitchaikani said India was expected to require more than three million additional college teachers by 2035, creating significant career prospects in higher education, research, banking, civil services, and emerging technology sectors.

Ham radio

S.R. Venkatesan, founder and managing director, Hilinks Technologies, Tiruchi, spoke on the fundamentals of amateur radio, licencing procedures, operating principles, communication protocols, and the vital role of Ham Radio in emergency and disaster communication, as part of a programme organised to mark World Youth Skills Day by the PG and Research Department of Physics, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, recently. His presentation gave students an overview on wireless communication and appreciate its scientific and societal applications.

College signs MoU with iTNT

Sri Bharathi Engineering College for Women, Kaikkurichi, Pudukkottai district, functioning under the Sri Bharathi Educational Trust (SBET), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Innovation and Technology Network Hub (iTNT), Tamil Nadu, to promote entrepreneurship and innovation among students. The agreement was signed by principal S. Thilagavathi and Vanitha Venugopal, iTNT chief executive officer, Chennai region and Daniel Willsen, iTNT-Tiruchi region. The collaboration is expected to strengthen the institution’s innovation ecosystem by enabling students to transform their ideas into viable products, startups and provides industry-oriented learning.

Talk on skin health

V. Ramya Maduri, dermatologist, gave a talk on common skin health-related issues faced by young adults—such as acne, pigmentation, and sun damage—and explained the science behind selecting correct topical treatments, during an awareness programme organised by the Women Empowerment Wing (WEW) of J.J. College of Arts and Science, Pudukotttai, recently. Dr. Maduri also introduced the audience to modern, safe aesthetic procedures and addressed numerous practical queries during an interactive session.

AI tips for teachers

Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered teaching and advanced e-content development were the focus of a workshop for teachers jointly hosted by Research and Development Centre of Thanthai Hans Roever College, Perambalur and A.V.V.M Sri Pushpam College, Poondi recently. Resource person K. Thirumurugan, Assistant Professor of Physics, A.V.V.M Sri Pushpam College, spoke on AI’s transformative role in education, specifically focusing on AI video generation and demonstrated how educators can now convert static lesson plans into dynamic video content. The workshop included an interactive practical session where participants explored various e-content development platforms.
