Investigation Links Cricket Ground Discovery to Railway Fatality

A routine security check at a cricket field near Varthur turned into a crime scene investigation early on July 29 after a guard located a detached human head on the premises. After the discovery was reported to the police control room, two separate investigations merged to clarify the circumstances of the death.

While Varthur police initiated a probe at the ground, officers from the Baiyappanahalli Railway Police identified a connection to a headless body recovered approximately 300 meters away. Railway authorities had already registered a case of unnatural death after finding the torso on a nearby track earlier that day.

Identity and Sequence of Events

Police identified the deceased as Vishwanath, a 25-year-old native of Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. The victim had been residing in Bengaluru, where he was employed at a private firm. Investigators have outlined the following preliminary findings:

  • A train impact likely killed Vishwanath on the night of July 28, resulting in his decapitation.
  • The physical distance between the body and the head suggests that a pack of stray dogs transported the remains from the impact site to the sports ground.
  • No foul play has been officially confirmed as the investigation continues into the specific events leading to the collision.

Status of the Ongoing Inquiry

The Baiyappanahalli Railway Police have officially notified Vishwanath's family in Andhra Pradesh regarding the incident. Current efforts focus on establishing the exact timeline of the victim's movements on Sunday night to determine if the fatality was accidental or otherwise. Forensic teams have cleared the Varthur cricket ground while the railway police maintain the primary inquiry into the unnatural death case.
