Bengaluru Authorities File Criminal Charges Against Four for Sabotaging Restored Blackspot

Bengaluru North City Corporation authorities have escalated their enforcement tactics following an incident on July 16 at a rehabilitated site on 7th Main Road, Banaswadi. Four individuals now face criminal charges for allegedly discarding waste at a location that had been officially cleared and restored. Shwetha Charanraj, Assistant General Manager of the Sarvajnanagar Division for Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML), filed the formal complaint triggering the investigation.

Defiance of Sanitation Protocols

The site in Ward No. 27 had undergone a restoration process designed to eliminate permanent garbage accumulation points. Despite recent community awareness initiatives and the deployment of ward marshals to maintain the area, enforcement officers reported a direct confrontation with the accused. According to the complaint, the marshals intercepted the group during active dumping, but the suspects refused to pay administrative fines and continued to deposit refuse at the location. The identified individuals include:

• Yash, residing in R.M. Nagar, Banaswadi
• Mani, residing in K.R. Puram
• Rudra, residing in Sai Layout
• Manu, residing in Balappa Layout

BNS Charges and Legal Implications

Banaswadi police have formally registered a case under Section 280 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, citing the act of making the atmosphere noxious to health. This legal maneuver moves the offense beyond simple civil penalties into the realm of criminal public nuisance. Corporation representatives emphasize that this case serves as a warning for the entire North City jurisdiction. Operations will continue to target those who undermine efforts to maintain beautified spaces or violate established solid waste management frameworks.
