Belagavi Hosts Kendriya Vidyalaya Regional Arts Festival to Honor Cultural Heritage
PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2 hosted the Kala Utsav-2026, gathering students from across the region for diverse artistic competitions. The event focused on fostering national unity through traditional storytelling, dance, and music.
Regional Talent Converges in Belagavi
The PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2, located in the Belagavi cantonment area, served as the venue for the Kala Utsav-2026 on Sunday, July 26. This regional gathering brought together students from various institutions, including schools in Machhe, Sambra, Chikkodi, Sadalga, Karwar, Vijayapura, and Bagalkot. The festival functioned as a collaborative arena for cultural exchange and mutual understanding among the diverse Kendriya Vidyalaya branches.
Competitive Disciplines and Artistic Rigor
Student participants competed across a broad spectrum of traditional and contemporary categories. The event schedule featured:
- Musical Performance: Both melodic and rhythmic instrumental displays, alongside folk and traditional vocal music.
- Performative Arts: Solo and group dance sequences, theatre productions, and traditional storytelling.
- Visual Mediums: Solo and group visual arts exhibitions.
The proceedings began with a ceremonial lamp lighting before the idol of Goddess Saraswati, led by Principal Mahendra Kalra. Music teachers Santosh Puri and Aarti directed the opening prayer and welcome song that followed.
Promoting National Integration
Principal Kalra addressed the assembly, characterizing the festival as a deep exploration of India’s heritage. He noted that the initiative builds self-confidence and cultural awareness while encouraging students to focus on the merit of their performance rather than the final score. According to Kalra, these displays of classical and folk arts are designed to align with the core ideals of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and the broader goal of national integration.
The administrative execution of the event involved Vice-Principal G.K. Vinayagam, who delivered the vote of thanks, and senior Hindi teacher Pushpa Nigam. Other faculty members in attendance included Vishnu Ningangoud, Bharatesh Bhosage, Kamalakshi Gokavi, and Nandkishore Jangid.
