Andhra Pradesh Central Discom Records Nearly Eightfold Surge in Rooftop Solar Adoption

Solar Capacity Hits 180 MW Milestone

The Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Corporation Limited (APCPDCL) has successfully integrated 50,114 rooftop solar connections into the regional power grid. This rapid expansion represents a total generation capacity of 180 MW. According to Chairman and Managing Director P. Pullareddy, the surge in installations marks a radical shift from the previous year's figures. In April 2025, the central discom recorded only 6,489 rooftop units. Since then, the utility has commissioned 43,625 new installations to reach its current total.

Execution Under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

The growth stems from the aggressive implementation of the national PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. APCPDCL leadership attributed the execution speed to a rigorous administrative framework. Key highlights of the operational strategy include:

• Daily Oversight: Officials conducted regular review meetings with empanelled vendors to identify and eliminate logistical bottlenecks.
• Vendor Cooperation: Close synchronization between the utility and service providers ensured faster technical resolution during the installation phase.
• Leadership Internal Review: CMD Pullareddy specifically recognized Director (Projects) T.V.S.N. Murthy and the senior management team for coordinating the rollout.

Renewable Goals and Consumer Cost Control

Beyond meeting state-level renewable energy targets, the initiative focuses on individual fiscal benefits for residents. The transition to clean energy allows consumers to significantly lower monthly electricity expenditures. APCPDCL remains committed to the PM Surya Ghar scheme as a primary vehicle for achieving the state's long-term sustainability objectives. By streamlining the grid-connection process, the discom aims to maintain this momentum in solar adoption across its service area.
