Strategic Infrastructure Launch at Simhapuri Depot
The Andhra Pradesh state government took a significant step toward modernizing public transport on July 25, 2026, with the opening of a dedicated power room at the Simhapuri e-bus depot. Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy, Minister of Transport and Youth Services, inspected the facility's new substation and charging grid. This infrastructure serves as the backbone for the city's transition away from fossil-fuel-based transit.
Statewide Fleet Expansion and Federal Support
Under the guidance of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the state is executing a rapid rollout of eco-friendly transportation. This initiative draws support from the central government's PM e-Bus Sewa scheme, which will supply Andhra Pradesh with an initial 750 electric units. The distribution plan focuses on five key urban hubs:
- Visakhapatnam: Assigned 100 buses to lead the local fleet transition.
- Vijayawada, Tirupati, Rajahmundry, and Guntur: Listed for phased implementation of electric transit services.
Commitment to Public Ownership
During the event, Minister Reddy addressed ongoing speculation regarding the future of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC). The Minister explicitly denied any intentions to privatize the entity, stating that the NDA coalition government intends to bolster the corporation rather than sell it. Trade union leaders and depot committee representatives met with the Minister following the ceremony, which was attended by senior APSRTC engineers and administrative staff.
