Strategic Interventions for Price Deficit and Debt

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu engaged in high-level talks on July 25 with Additional Secretary Nitin Kumar Yadav and Director Monika Gaur from the Union Ministry of Commerce to mitigate the financial strain on tobacco cultivators. The meeting, held at the Chief Minister's residence, centered on three specific financial relief models: the provision of interest-free working capital loans, the introduction of various production incentives, and a direct mechanism to compensate for price deficits.

Market Regulation and Storage Solutions

Naidu questioned the depth of Central Government support and mandated the creation of an action plan that accounts for global trade shifts. To shield growers from sudden price drops, the Chief Minister proposed a strategy of holding crop inventory for one to two years, allowing sales to occur only after market values stabilize. Key objectives for the new regulatory framework include:

• Establishing a robust regulatory system to insulate farmers from market volatility.
• Structuring short, medium, and long-term strategies for sustainable farming.
• Coordinating with traders and stakeholders to refine the sale of various tobacco grades.

Collaborative Governance and Stakeholder Input

The deliberative session included Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar alongside state ministers Gottipati Ravi Kumar and Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy. Local representation featured prominently, with MLAs from Polavaram, Rajanagaram, Narasaraopet, and the combined Prakasam district in attendance. Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu and MPs Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy and Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu joined the technical discussions via virtual link to ensure the proposed action plan meets the needs of regional constituencies.
