Akums Moves Into Colour Cosmetics with INR 56 Crore Oriflame Facility Acquisition
Pharmaceutical giant Akums Drugs and Pharmaceuticals has secured a manufacturing deal for Oriflame's Indian production sites. The move broadens its contract manufacturing portfolio into the prestige beauty and wellness markets.
Strategic Pivot into Beauty Manufacturing
Akums Drugs and Pharmaceuticals is diversifying its industrial footprint through the acquisition of Oriflame India’s manufacturing arm. The deal, valued at ₹56 crore, signals a major expansion for the firm as it moves beyond pharmaceutical production into the high-growth colour cosmetics sector. The transaction is being executed via Akums’ wholly owned subsidiary, Pure and Cure Healthcare.
Infrastructure and Export Potential
The acquisition secures key production assets for Akums, including:
- Manufacturing facilities located in Roorkee and Noida.
- A leased distribution warehouse in Noida.
- European-standard production equipment.
- Halal-certified environments suitable for international export.
By absorbing these specialized sites, Akums gains immediate capacity to produce skincare, hair care, and wellness products alongside its new colour cosmetics offerings. This infrastructure ensures the company can service both domestic and global brands looking for advanced contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) partners.
Deal Parameters and Timeline
This agreement focuses strictly on the production infrastructure. Oriflame India will retain ownership of its trademarks, sales networks, and marketing operations. Expected to conclude by the end of August, the finalization of the deal remains subject to standard closing conditions. This shift reflects a broader trend of large-scale manufacturers retooling their capabilities to capture value in the evolving beauty supply chain.
