Former Minister and YSRCP senior leader Dharmana Prasada Rao on Thursday strongly condemned the arrest of former minister Seediri Appala Raju in the road accident case in which his son Seediri Arav Varma was already arrested a week ago.
Speaking to the media, he said that the State government was also harassing Mr. Appala Raju even though he had cooperated with the police.
The police department on Wednesday evening arrested Mr. Appala Raju and named him as Accused No.3 in the FIR related to the road accident case which led to the death of one shepherd Danayya on July 10 at old National Highway near Kasibugga in Srikakulam district.
The police had initially arrested Mr. Arav’s friend Mr. Siddardh as the bike was registered in the latter’s name. The police later arrested Mr. Appala Raju saying that he had misled the police and made them arrest another person in the case.
Mr. Prasada Rao said that Mr. Appala Raju who belonged to the fishermen community brought good name to the district and had done great service for kidney patients with the construction of kidney research centre and dialysis centres. He added that the government would face the music for misusing police power to harass opposition leaders who raise their voice against the government.
