They are self-styled youth icons: Supreme Court slams influencers Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia
The Supreme Court of India criticized social media influencers and comedians for content deemed offensive and insensitive to public dignity. The court emphasized that self-styled youth icons must maintain a higher standard of responsibility in their public discourse.

The Supreme Court recently expressed strong disapproval regarding the content shared by prominent social media figures, including Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia. The court noted that individuals who position themselves as youth icons bear a significant social responsibility to avoid derogatory or harmful commentary.
During the proceedings, a plea specifically flagged various jokes and public statements made by Samay Raina, host of 'India's Got Latent,' alongside several other comedians. The petition identified Vipun Goyal, Balraj Paramjeet Singh Ghai, Sonali Thakkar, and Nishant Jagdish Tanwar for participating in content that allegedly crossed the boundaries of public decency.
Judges highlighted that while freedom of speech is a fundamental right, it should not be utilized to target vulnerable groups or normalize offensive behavior under the guise of entertainment. The court suggested that the influence these personalities wield over younger audiences necessitates stricter self-regulation and accountability.
