T.N. Minister holds meeting with stakeholders ahead of ‘presence-less’ registration launch

Tamil Nadu Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration D. Logesh Tamilselvan on Thursday (July 23, 2026) chaired a consultative meeting of flat and plot promoters, bankers, and representatives of financial institutions on the implementation of the “presence-less” registration system for certain documents, which will come into force on August 17, 2026.

The meeting was held at Amma Maligai on the premises of the Ripon Buildings in Chennai. During the meeting, Mr. Tamilselvan said the Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay-led government has been working to effectively leverage the potential of information technology in governance to improve efficiency and effectiveness in delivering government services to the public in a swift, simple, and transparent manner.

In the first phase of “presence-less” registration, the first sale of plots and flats will begin on August 17. This will significantly reduce the time and travel expenses of the public. As flat and plot promoters, bankers, and financial institutions are the key stakeholders in the system, training programmes will be organised to create awareness and clarify doubts, he said.

He urged all stakeholders to cooperate in implementing the new system. Commercial Taxes, Registration and Religious Endowments Secretary J. Kumaragurubaran, Inspector General of Registration G.K. Arun Sundar Thayalan, and other officials were present at the meeting.
