SC allows CBI, ED to lead Reliance ADAG Group probe, says it cannot decide the course of investigation

A Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant has permitted the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate to continue their probe into the Reliance ADAG Group. The court maintained that the judiciary cannot decide the specific course or methodology of an active investigation.

During the proceedings, Chief Justice Kant noted that any premature comments made by the court regarding an ongoing probe, even if unintentional, could potentially impact the fairness of the subsequent trial. This decision reinforces the operational independence of central investigative agencies in white-collar crime inquiries.

The court has further directed the investigative agencies to file their official status reports to keep the bench informed of the progress. This move ensures a level of judicial oversight without direct interference in the collection of evidence or questioning procedures. Source: Chief Justice Surya Kant during court proceedings.
