Indian authorities have detained a United States national near the Maharajganj district border for failing to produce valid documents required for entry. The arrest took place during a routine security check along the sensitive corridor connecting India and Nepal.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police Siddharth, preliminary investigations suggest the individual entered India through a sea route in November 2025. Following that arrival, the individual reportedly relocated to Goa and had been living there for several months prior to traveling north toward the border.

Local security agencies and intelligence units are currently questioning the suspect to determine the motive behind the unauthorized entry and travel. The individual remains in custody pending further legal proceedings and communication with diplomatic representatives. Source: Additional SP (Maharajganj) Siddharth.
