Veteran Tamil writer Poomani, known for his extensively researched historical fiction and realistic storytelling, has died at 79. Chief Minister Vijay announced that the writer would be accorded State honours in recognition of his significant contributions to Tamil literature.
Poomani gained widespread critical acclaim for his 2014 Sahitya Akademi Award-winning novel Agnaadi. The work is regarded as a monumental epic, detailing the communal riots of Sivakasi in 1899 and Kazhugumalai in 1895 through a deeply researched narrative lens.
