No EU agreement yet on 21st Russian sanctions package, says EU foreign ‌policy chief Kaja Kallas

European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated that member states have not yet secured a formal agreement regarding the 21st sanctions package aimed at Russia. The discussions are part of an ongoing effort to tighten economic and diplomatic pressure on Moscow following its invasion of Ukraine.

According to Kallas, EU countries are specifically aiming to reach a consensus on approximately 250 new listings. These targets typically include individuals and entities accused of supporting the Russian military-industrial complex or participating in the circumvention of existing trade restrictions.

The current objective is to have the package finalized before the next gathering of EU Foreign Affairs Ministers in Brussels. Reaching a deal requires unanimous approval from all 27 member states, which has historically led to prolonged negotiations over specific sector exemptions and listing details. Source: Kaja Kallas.
