THE WHAT? Modella Capital is reportedly considering a bid to acquire luxury department store chain Harvey Nichols, joining a growing list of potential buyers as the retailer’s sale process continues.

THE DETAILS The retail investment firm, which owns businesses including TGJones, Hobbycraft and Flying Tiger, is among several parties to have expressed interest in the retailer. Other reported bidders include Next and Frasers Group. Harvey Nichols, which is owned by billionaire Sir Dickson Poon, has appointed advisers to oversee the sale following years of financial challenges. The retailer operates stores across the UK, Ireland and the Middle East and stocks a wide portfolio of premium beauty and luxury brands, including Armani Beauty, Lancôme, Cartier and Balmain. In its latest financial year, the company reported a 5% decline in revenue and a pre-tax loss of £34 million.

THE WHY? A change in ownership could reshape the strategy of one of the UK’s most influential luxury retailers, with potential implications for premium beauty brands, retail partnerships and the wider prestige beauty distribution landscape.
