Maharashtra ATS questions 66 youth to uncover Pakistani gangster’s alleged ‘network in India’
The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad has questioned 66 individuals to investigate a potential operational network linked to a Pakistan-based gangster. Authorities are examining allegations that sleeper cells are being established by targeting vulnerable youth through social media platforms.
The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) conducted an extensive questioning of 66 youths as part of an investigation into an alleged criminal network operating within India. The probe focuses on a Pakistan-based gangster suspected of orchestrating efforts to recruit local individuals for unlawful activities.
According to the anti-terror agency, these recruitment efforts specifically target youth from economically weaker backgrounds. Investigators believe that social media platforms are being utilized as a primary tool to lure candidates into forming sleeper cells across various regions.
Officials stated that the questioning is aimed at uncovering the depth of the network and identifying any specific directives issued by handlers based abroad. The agency is currently monitoring digital footprints to trace the communication channels used between the recruiters and the local youth.
