Madhya Pradesh Bhojshala complex: Supreme Court suggests temporary prayer space for Muslims until case decided

The Supreme Court on Monday deliberated on the ongoing dispute concerning the Bhojshala complex in Madhya Pradesh, suggesting that a temporary space be allocated for Muslim prayers. This proposal aims to maintain religious practices while the court decides on the long-term status of the 11th-century structure.

As part of its interim directions, the apex court ordered the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to ensure that no structural alterations are made to the site. The court emphasized that any significant physical changes to the disputed structure would require explicit permission from the bench before proceeding.

The legal dispute centers on whether the site is a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati or a mosque, leading to a court-mandated scientific survey by the ASI earlier this year. The current proceedings seek to balance the claims of both Hindu and Muslim petitioners during the litigation process.
