Aavin to reintroduce ‘button paal’ system of selling milk, Madras High Court told
The Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation, known as Aavin, will reintroduce its historic vending machine system for milk sales. This decision follows a pilot project directive from the Madras High Court aimed at reviving efficient distribution methods.
Aavin has informed the Madras High Court of its plans to reintroduce the 'button paal' system, a method of selling milk through automated vending machines. The initiative is designed to modernize the consumer purchasing experience while streamlining the logistics of milk distribution across the state.
A pilot project for this system is scheduled to launch soon in the hill stations of Kodaikanal and Udhagamandalam. These locations will serve as testing grounds to evaluate the mechanical reliability and consumer response to the automated dispensers before a potential wider rollout.
The move comes as a response to judicial directives seeking improvements in the cooperative's operations. Officials indicated that the technology would offer a hygienic and convenient alternative to traditional sachet sales in these high-traffic tourist areas. Source: Madras High Court proceedings
