The controversy began when candidates alleged that the selection process for Group A and B posts was marred by corruption and nepotism. Investigation reports indicated that specific candidates were awarded high marks in interviews despite poor performance in written examinations, suggesting a deliberate attempt to alter the merit list.
In response to these findings, the state government initially moved to scrap the select lists, leading to a decade-long legal battle in the Karnataka High Court and the Supreme Court. The judiciary has since ordered re-evaluations and fresh interviews in specific instances to ensure a fair outcome for aggrieved aspirants who were unfairly overlooked.
