Kochi Corporation writes to Railways seeking land for High Court parking facility
The Kochi Corporation has formally requested Indian Railways to provide land for a much-needed parking facility near the High Court of Kerala. The initiative aims to alleviate severe traffic congestion and parking shortages that currently affect the legal complex and surrounding areas.
The Kochi Corporation has reached out to the Railway authorities seeking access to land located near the High Court of Kerala to establish a dedicated parking zone. This move follows persistent complaints regarding the lack of parking space for lawyers, litigants, and staff members frequenting the judicial facility.
Officials stated that the proposed plan involves utilizing vacant land owned by the Railways that is currently not in active use. By converting this space into a regulated parking area, the civic body hopes to reduce roadside parking which often bottlenecks traffic flow in the Ernakulam city center.
Discussions regarding the lease terms or potential acquisition are expected to follow once the Railways responds to the preliminary request. The project is considered a priority for urban planning as the area currently lacks the infrastructure to accommodate the high volume of daily visitors to the High Court complex.
