Kerala Waqf Board chairperson sees conspiracy in petitions

Kerala State Waqf Board chairperson K.S. Hamsa suspected a conspiracy involving the BJP, the Indian Union Muslim League, a Christian organisation and the State government in the petitions challenging the constitution of the Board.

Though filed by different parties, the contentions in all the petitions sounded strikingly similar. It should be suspected that the petitions must be drafted by one person. The Advocate General of the State government was also in support of these petitions when they came up for the consideration of the Kerala High Court, he said.

Incidentally, the petition filed by the Board challenging the decision of the Kerala High Court staying its activities will come up before the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

Mr. Hamsa alleged that the leaders of a political party who had encroached upon large tracts of Waqf land were opposed to the Kerala Waqf Board. Large tracts of Waqf properties were encroached by Muslims, he said.
