Flyovers in Hyderabad’s IT corridor busy junctions targeted for completion by May 2027

Commuters using Hyderabad’s IT corridor could save up to 20 minutes at IIIT Junction and 16 minutes at Khajaguda Junction once two major flyover and underpass projects worth ₹679 crore are completed by May 2027. The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) said the projects are expected to ease congestion at two of the city’s busiest intersections, benefiting over 2 lakh vehicles every day.
Reviewing the works, the CMC Commissioner G. Srijana directed engineering officials to maintain the pace of construction while ensuring strict adherence to quality and safety standards. The two projects are being executed as part of the corporation’s efforts to decongest Hyderabad’s rapidly expanding IT corridor, where increasing traffic volumes have resulted in long queues, signal delays and extended travel times during peak hours.
Multi-level flyover and underpass at IIIT Junction
The larger of the two projects is the ₹459-crore multi-level flyover and underpass at IIIT Junction, one of the busiest intersections along the Old Mumbai Highway connecting Gachibowli, Lingampally, Wipro Junction and Kondapur Road. According to the CMC, more than 2 lakh vehicles use this corridor every day, with heavy traffic and signal-controlled movement frequently leading to congestion, delays and higher fuel consumption. Once completed, the project is expected to reduce peak-hour travel time by nearly 20 minutes while enabling uninterrupted traffic movement through the junction.
Beyond reducing travel time, officials said the project would significantly cut vehicle idling and stop-and-go traffic conditions, resulting in fuel savings, lower vehicle operating costs and reduced carbon emissions.

What is being constructed at IIIT junction?
Spread over a total length of 3.39 km, the project comprises a four-lane bi-directional flyover from ISB Road towards DLF Road spanning 720 metres, a three-lane uni-directional flyover from DLF Road towards Lingampally measuring 948 metres, a three-lane uni-directional flyover from ISB Road towards Gachibowli extending 1.20 km, and a six-lane bi-directional underpass from Gachibowli towards Lingampally measuring 520 metres. The project is targeted for completion by May 2027.
Foundation works, piers, pier caps and prestressed concrete (PSC) girder casting have reached advanced stages. Upon completion, the project will facilitate uninterrupted movement between Gachibowli and Lingampally, Wipro Junction and Gachibowli, and Wipro Junction and Kondapur Road. It is also expected to improve connectivity to the Financial District and the Outer Ring Road while minimising land acquisition through its double-decker flyover design.

The Commissioner also reviewed the progress of the ₹220-crore flyover and underpass project at Khajaguda Junction, another major traffic bottleneck connecting Mehdipatnam, Shaikpet, Nanakramguda and Gachibowli. The junction currently experiences severe congestion because of signal-controlled traffic from the Tolichowki and Shaikpet flyovers, along with vehicles travelling between Nanakramguda and Shaikpet.

Commuters would save 16 minutes during peak hours
With an existing peak-hour traffic volume of nearly 10,702 passenger car units (PCUs) per hour, the proposed improvements are expected to increase the junction’s capacity and operational efficiency. The CMC estimates that commuters would save about 16 minutes during peak hours once the project is completed.
Khajaguda road project details
The Khajaguda project consists of a three-lane uni-directional flyover from Nanakramguda towards Shaikpet measuring 1,085 metres and a three-lane uni-directional underpass from Shaikpet towards Gachibowli spanning 540 metres. The total project length is 1.625 km and is scheduled for completion by April 2027. Foundation, pier and pier cap works are currently in progress.

The completed project will enable uninterrupted traffic movement between Mehdipatnam and Gachibowli as well as Nanakramguda and Shaikpet, eliminating long waits at traffic signals.
