Fake Accounts, Wrong KYC, False OTPs: CBI Unearths Bhopal's Scholarship Scam
The Central Bureau of Investigation has uncovered an extensive scholarship fraud in Bhopal involving the embezzlement of approximately Rs 1 crore. Investigators found that the scheme relied on fabricated identities and fraudulent digital verification methods to siphon public funds.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has exposed a financial scam in Bhopal where approximately Rs 1 crore in scholarship funds was allegedly embezzled. The scheme targeted government financial aid programs aimed at supporting students, redirecting the money through a network of fraudulent bank accounts and falsified records.
According to the investigation, the perpetrators utilized fake accounts, incorrect Know Your Customer (KYC) documentation, and manipulated One-Time Passwords (OTPs) to bypass security measures. By creating non-existent student profiles, the group was able to clear verification hurdles typically required for the disbursement of educational grants.
Digital forensic evidence suggests that the suspects systematically exploited loopholes in the electronic governance systems used for scholarship management. Authorities are currently examining the involvement of potential insiders who may have facilitated the large-scale creation of these illegitimate credentials.
The CBI is continuing its search operations to identify all beneficiaries of the fraudulent transactions and recover the stolen public funds. Source: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
