CPI (M) stages protest against forceful removal of Sonam Wangchuk during hunger strike

The Communist Party of India (Marxist), on Monday, staged a demonstration near Raja Theatre to condemn the forceful removal of activist Sonam Wangchuk during his hunger strike in New Delhi demanding resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in connection with NEET paper leak.

CPI (M) workers staged the demonstration under the leadership of party local unit secretary S. Ramachandran. They raised slogans against the Central government for forcefully removing the activist while being silent on the question of resignation of Mr. Pradhan.

Earlier, Mr. Ramachandran submitted a memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor questioning the decision of the Puducherry government to use pipes that are not recommended for carrying sewage. The Bureau of Indian Standards explicitly designates HDPE pipes marked IS 4984:2016 for use of carrying potable water, raw water, and general-purpose water transport. However, the use of such pipes has been reported in Puducherry for sewerage systems, the party said.

The party has urged the Lt. Governor to stop ongoing works to provide sewerage connectivity using such pipes and order an inquiry into the lapse by the concerned government agencies in executing the work.
