Assam flood situation eases, death toll rises to 11
An official update says 3.11 lakh people remain affected across 11 districts, down from 16 on July 20

GUWAHATI
The flood situation in Assam eased on Tuesday (July 21, 2026), but a human life was lost in the State’s Charaideo district, taking the death toll to 11 in less than a month.
An update from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said 3.13 lakh people remain affected across 11 districts, down from 3.63 lakh people across 16 districts on Monday (July 20, 2026).
“Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat continue to be the worst-affected districts. A person died due to floods in Charaideo district,” an ASDMA spokesperson said.
Officials in the flood-hit districts have established 52 relief camps, currently housing 12,720 people. Rescue workers evacuated 9,160 stranded people by boats.
The ASDMA also reported urban floods from six areas of Guwahati. These are Satgaon, Sawkuchi, Notboma, Boragaon, Maligaon, and Chandmari.
“Landslides were reported Monday [July 20, 2026] evening from five areas of Guwahati,” the spokesperson said.
According to data provided, the Brahmaputra River was flowing above the danger level at Neamatighat, the Buridihing River at Khowang, the Dikhou River at Sivasagar, the Disang River at Nganglamuraghat and the Dhansiri River at Golaghat and Numaligarh.
