Amid 'Satluj' row, Khalra's wife Paramjit Kaur urges Akal Takht to form 'People's Commission'
Paramjit Kaur Khalra has called upon the Akal Takht to establish a 'People's Commission' to investigate historical grievances and human rights violations. The appeal coincides with ongoing tensions regarding the Satluj-Yamuna Link canal and broader regional issues.

Paramjit Kaur Khalra, the wife of late human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, has formally urged the Akal Takht to institute a 'People's Commission.' She argues that such a body is necessary to address unresolved issues stemming from the 1980s and 1990s, including the military action at the Golden Temple and subsequent police conduct in Punjab.
Highlighting a need for accountability, Khalra referenced the Sikh genocide of November 1984 and the discovery of unidentified bodies as critical points requiring investigation. She stated that these events, along with allegations of fake police encounters and torture, continue to demand justice for the affected families.
The proposal comes during a period of heightened political discourse surrounding the 'Satluj' river water dispute. Khalra's advocacy emphasizes a transition toward community-led oversight to document historical incidents that she believes the state has failed to adequately address over the past four decades.
