The Working Group on Access to Medicines and Treatment has formally requested an early decision on a writ petition concerning breast cancer medication access. The group highlighted that the legal matter has remained unresolved before the Kerala High Court since June 2022, facing significant delays in the judicial process.
According to the activists, the case has been listed for a final hearing 57 times without being heard since January 21, 2023. This ongoing delay has raised concerns among patient advocacy groups regarding the impact of judicial inaction on those requiring immediate medical intervention.
The petition seeks to improve the availability of critical drugs for patients who currently face limited options. The activists argue that a swift resolution is essential to ensure that healthcare rights and life-saving treatments are upheld in accordance with constitutional protections.
