Woman attempts to end life at Pattukottai Registrar Office
Nithya, 42, of Latchathoppu, Pattukottai, attempted to end her life at the Pattukottai Registrar Office on Wednesday, protesting inaction over her complaint of fraudulent registration of her father’s property.
According to sources, Nithya’s father, Panneerselvam, registered a power of attorney document with respect to 65 cents of land owned by him in favour of Rajendran of Bakkiyam Nagar in Pattukottai in February 2009. After three months, Panneerselvam cancelled the power of attorney document. In the meantime, he transferred the ownership of the land to his wife, Anandajyothi. On coming to know of ir, Nithya lodged a complaint with the Registrar seeking cancellation of the land registration claiming that it was carried out in a fraudulent manner.
She had also filed a litigation in a court. As the Registrar did not initiate any action on her complaint, Nithya attempted to take the extreme step at the Registrar office premises. She was prevented from doing so and taken to hospital. A case has been registered by the Pattukottai police, sources said.
