Visuals from the scene showed Priyanka Gandhi sitting on the road in protest before being forcibly moved by security personnel into a police vehicle. Rahul Gandhi, who was dressed in black as a mark of protest, told reporters that the government is afraid of the issues being raised by the opposition and transition to a 'dictatorship' is underway.
The Delhi Police had previously denied permission for the protest in the New Delhi district, citing prohibitory orders that restrict large gatherings.
