Villagers stage dharna, demand closure of TASMAC outlet

A section of villagers of Koppampatti in Pudukottai district staged a dharna on Monday in front of a TASMAC liquor outlet in that village demanding its closure.

The police said a group of about 60 women and some men assembled in front of the shop located in the outer area of the village and resorted to dharna demanding the authorities to close the TASMAC liquor outlet which had been functioning for the past four years. 

They wanted the outlet to be relocated to some other place, the sources said. Revenue officials and police personnel held talks with the women and assured them of appropriate action by holding a peace talk. Following this, the villagers gave up their protest.
