A woman seeking a nursing position in the state health department allegedly attempted suicide by consuming phenyl outside the official residence of Uttarakhand Health Minister Subodh Uniyal in Dehradun. The incident occurred while a group of unemployed healthcare workers gathered to demand job appointments and government attention to their grievances.
Security personnel and bystanders immediately intervened when the nurse showed signs of distress after ingesting the substance. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where medical professionals are currently monitoring her condition. Local police have initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the protest and the subsequent suicide attempt.
The protesters have been advocating for several months regarding vacant positions in the health sector, citing a lack of response from state officials. Following the incident, security has been tightened around the minister’s residence while local authorities engage with the remaining demonstrators to prevent further escalation.
