Surge in rooftop Solar across eastern Andhra Pradesh

Rooftop solar capacity is expanding rapidly across the eastern districts of Andhra Pradesh, with total installations crossing 475.33 megawatts (MW) across 88,561 consumers by June 30, according to APEPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Immadi Prudhvi Tej.

Releasing performance statistics highlighting the utility’s growth over the past four financial years, Mr. Prudhvi Tej noted that APEPDCL had registered consistent and remarkable progress.

Grid-synchronised solar rooftop installations expanded significantly from humble beginnings in 2012–13 to reach a cumulative 385.05 MWp across 64,889 systems by 2025–26. In the present fiscal, up to June 30, it was 90.28 MWp.

“I attribute this surge to growing public awareness regarding renewable energy and rising confidence in central and State government incentive schemes” the CMD said.

Services and Subsidies

Mr. Prudhvi Tej emphasised that the APEPDCL is ensuring swift and transparent technical assistance, grid integration, and net metering processes for consumers adopting rooftop solar.

Highlighting financial assistance under the central government’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, he noted that subsidies have been extended up to ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, and ₹78,000 for 3 kW. Additionally, 2 kW rooftop solar systems are being installed free of cost for 2 lakh eligible Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) families.

The CMD urged domestic consumers across Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Alluri Sitharama Raju, East Godavari, Kakinada, Konaseema, Eluru, and West Godavari districts to utilise the initiative.

“Adopting rooftop solar not only slashes electricity bills but also enables every citizen to become a stakeholder in producing green energy for the protection of the environment,” he added.
