Supreme Court metro station closure affecting lawyers, says Bar Association president

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Vikas Singh on Thursday (July 23, 2026) drew Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant’s attention to the inconvenience caused to lawyers by the closure of the Supreme Court Metro station.

“The lawyers or Registry staff can be screened at the Metro station. It’s affecting us,” Mr. Singh said.
The Chief Justice said that he would look into the issue if the station did not become operational by lunch. He also informed the Bar that he had passed an administrative order directing that no adverse orders be passed solely on account of the non-appearance of counsel.
“Yes, by lunch, if it doesn’t [reopen], we will look into this,” the Chief Justice said.
Earlier in the day, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation announced the closure of 16 Metro stations, including Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Delhi Gate, Central Secretariat and the Supreme Court station. It, however, said interchange facilities would continue to remain available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat.
