THE WHAT? Shiseido has discovered that cilantro fruit extract may offer a dual anti-ageing benefit by selectively eliminating senescent skin cells while increasing healthy fibroblasts, supporting collagen production and skin regeneration.

THE DETAILS Building on more than 20 years of regenerative medicine research, Shiseido found that cilantro fruit extract induced the removal of aged, dysfunctional skin cells without affecting healthy cells. Laboratory studies also showed the extract increased the number of normal fibroblasts and stimulated collagen production, while reducing biological markers associated with cellular ageing. The company said the findings build on previous research into coriander-derived ingredients for hair regeneration and could support the development of next-generation anti-ageing technologies based on senolytics—the selective removal of senescent cells.

THE WHY? The research demonstrates how regenerative medicine is increasingly influencing cosmetics innovation, with ingredient suppliers and beauty companies exploring cellular ageing, skin longevity and senolytic technologies as the next frontier in premium anti-ageing skin care.
