Senior advocate Aruna Shyam appointed Karnataka Bank additional director

Karnataka Bank on Monday announced appointing senior advocate M. Aruna Shyam as a non-executive, independent additional director of the bank for a period of four years, with effect from July 18.

The appointment is subject to the approval of the shareholders of the bank as per the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, and applicable provisions of the Companies Act, 2013, a release said.

Mr. Shyam is a postgraduate in business law and holds a doctorate in law (constitution and criminal law). Since 2004, he has been in active legal practice, appearing before civil courts, various tribunals, including debt recovery tribunals, the National Company Law Tribunal, the High Court of Karnataka, and the Supreme Court.

He also served as the Additional Advocate General of Karnataka from 2020 to 2023, representing the State in several important constitutional, statutory and public law matters before the high court and other judicial forums.

He was designated as a senior advocate by the High Court of Karnataka on December 14, 2021. His appointment further strengthens the bank’s board of directors with his extensive legal expertise and rich professional experience, the release added.
