PM Modi’s Statehood promise should carry weight: Omar Abdullah

National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah has called on the Union government to prioritize the return of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that the Prime Minister’s previous statements on the matter should carry significant weight and form the basis for immediate administrative action.

To pressure the central leadership, the National Conference has announced a scheduled sit-in protest at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The demonstration is set to take place on July 20, aligning with the commencement of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

The protest aims to highlight demands for the restoration of statehood and the implementation of specific constitutional safeguards for the region. Abdullah indicated that the step is necessary to represent the democratic will of the electorate following the return of a legislative process in the union territory.

The call for action remains a central point of the party's political agenda as they seek a definitive timeline from the central government. Source: National Conference excerpt.
