Over 2,000 Detained Across J&K After Cop Killed In Anantnag Terrorist Attack

Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir began a large-scale sweep after Head Constable Aashiq Hussain Qureshi was killed in a targeted shooting. The 35-year-old officer was fired upon by terrorists while stationed with a police party at a crowded market in the Anantnag district.

Police officials confirmed that the detentions were carried out under various preventive laws to curb the activities of overground workers. The operation spans multiple districts, with a focus on areas known for high militant activity and recruitment.

Security measures have been intensified throughout the valley, involving increased checkpoints and cordon-and-search operations. Investigating teams are currently questioning the detainees to establish leads regarding the perpetrators of the market attack.
