One Tunnel, One Highway: Rs 14,115-Crore Bet To Transform UP, Delhi-NCR
The Union Cabinet has approved two major infrastructure projects worth a combined Rs 14,115 crore to improve connectivity in Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh. These developments include a new six-lane tunnel for the national capital and a significant greenfield highway project.

The Indian government has sanctioned a 117.7-km greenfield highway connecting Kanpur and Kabrai in Uttar Pradesh. The project carries an estimated cost of Rs 7,145.14 crore and is expected to significantly reduce travel time and enhance logistics between the two regions.
In addition to the highway, the Cabinet has greenlit a massive infrastructure upgrade for the Delhi-NCR area involving a strategic six-lane tunnel. This development aims to decongest traffic and improve transit efficiency across the capital's busy corridors.
These two projects represent a total investment of Rs 14,115 crore, marking a significant bet on infrastructure-led growth for Northern India. Officials anticipate that the new routes will bolster economic activity and improve safety for long-distance commuters. Source: Cabinet Briefing.
