Nellore children’s park to introduce sky drive, zip line soon, says Minister

Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Ponguru Narayana said that modern play equipment and adventure activities, including a sky drive, zip line, and cycling track, will be installed within three months at the children’s park in Nellore, while reviewing the master plan prepared for the park’s modernisation on Monday.

“Children’s park had previously been established on the site of a dumping yard and it would now be developed along the lines of Rajahmundry Park under the aegis of A.P. Greening and Beautification Corporation (APG&BC). However, the park’s maintenance would be handed over to the association itself,” he said, warning that strict action would be taken against any encroachment upon the parks.

The Minister further announced that all parks in the city would be modernised in a phased manner to meet the needs of the public.

Roof collapses

Meanwhile, a roof slab of a 60-year-old house at Yanamalavari Street (49th Division) in the city suddenly collapsed later that same evening. Fire Department personnel acted promptly and rescued three individuals trapped under the debris.

Mr. Narayana rushed to the scene and inspected the collapsed roof of the house in which eight families were residing. He spoke with the victims, officials, and local residents to gather details about the incident, oversaw the relief operations, and issued instructions to the officials. He immediately sanctioned TIDCO houses for the eight affected families and assured them support.

Students felicitated

Later, the Minister felicitated meritorious Class X and Intermediate students at ‘Shining Stars Awards–2026’ event organised by the Education department. Addressing the students, he recalled how he had started his journey as a part-time lecturer earning a monthly salary of ₹120, and how he has now reached the stage of building institutions that provide education to lakhs of students across the country.

In another programme at V.R. High School campus, Mr. Narayana’s elder daughter, Sindhura Narayana, announced the distribution of 10,000 bicycles, funded entirely by Narayana Group at a cost of ₹6 crore, to the students of 23 government schools within the city limits. She said that 7,000 bicycles would be distributed to students within a week in the first phase.
